Unnayan Uddog has been running 10 non-formal primary education (NFPE) schools for rural poor children since 1995.
It also provides basic education and skills development training to street children, running the programme from resources — training equipment and overheads — saved from the Child Labour Elimination Project funded by ILO.
Basic Literacy Project
The basic literacy work grew out of the Elimination of Child Labour Project. Children withdrawn from hazardous work were provided with basic education up to grade III alongside primary health care services and recreational facilities, while a house-to-house garbage collection system subsidised the income their families had lost. The same model — literacy first, then skills training and micro-credit — continues to guide the organization's education work.
